As the market gets lower, we can see more rich people taking this once in a decade opportunity to purchase more shares:
- Mr Wee Ee Chao bought UOB Kay Hian brokerage - 403,00 shares @ 0.93 cents
- Mr Yeo Chong Lin bought Swissco International - 1.125 million shares from 0.315 to 0.35 cents
- Mr Quah Su Ling bought Ipco - 250,00 shares @ 0.03 cents
- Mr Wee Kok Wah bought Stamford Tyres - 159,000 shares @ 0.177 cents

October 2008 was by far the most interesting month I had encountered in my years of investing and would include the most amount of volatility caused by Mr. Market’s manic mood swings. It’s amazing that regional bourses can have swings of 10-12% up and down in a day; it’s as if the underlying businesses were really changing on a daily basis to justify such strange behaviour ! Of course, we all know Mr. Market is having his manic moods again and pricing businesses as if they were going to go bankrupt the next day. In such an environment, he normally assigns a very low valuation for most businesses.

October 24 2008 - STI 1,600.28 -72.69 Volume 1.36 billions shares traded
STI ETF 1.70 -0.13
Singapore's benchmark Straits Times Index plunged 145.39, its forth biggest one day drop in history to a FIVE year low.  Blue chips suffered the hardest hit this week.  Like the previous Asian financial crises in 1998, those who kept their faith will find themselves richly rewarded when their price start charging back stronger that before after the sub-prime financial crises of 2008.

October 17 2008 - STI 1,878.51 -72.69 Volume 1.26 billions shares traded
STI ETF 1.99 -0.04
In time of crises where every investor fear to buy shares, it was really a great comfort to hear that the legendary investor Warren Buffett in The New York Times last Thursday explains why he chose to buy during the current crises.  He says that he is putting his money where his mouth is in America equities as he capitalise on FEAR.  "A simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy and be greedy when others are fearful.

It's time for us to ponder about these wise words and look at stocks as real businesses that provide a monthly a rice bowl for many of us who are employed by these companies listed on SGX.

October 10 2008 - STI  1,948.33 - Volume 1.59 billions shares traded
STI ETF   2.03 -0.16
Today will go down in history as Black Friday (STI -154.38).  It seems that October is not a good month for stocks if you were to go back to those past financial crises.  Bargain price have emerged for those willing to take risk.

A mess can be a source of opportunity. Contrarians can benefit in times oftumult. In a market that is swinging up and down, a savvy investor can make more money and more quickly than from a steady climb.

Look at Mr Oei Hong Leong, perhaps one of the savviest market players in Singapore. While others panicked, he placed sizeable chips on the American giant AIG, buying as prices sharply dipped. After the US government bailout, and if the market and company prove resilient, there may prove to be rewards (he made 7 Millions with this single bet and donate it to charity). If not, of course, the amounts gambled will be lost.

Such a contrarian approach is not for everyone. A quick but steady hand, a strong stomach for ups and downs, as well as sufficient reserves, are required.

September 19 2008 - STI  2,559.07 - Volume 2.1 billions shares traded
A yo-yo week which saw the world stock markets going down and up again as the US government setup funds totaling as much as USD 1.2 trillion to purchase failed assets in order to insure investors with their money market funds.

It is was a wake-up for many to improve their financial literacy skills.  What they thought was safe investments like savings in banks, insurance and unit trusts can also end up in losses as many forgot that banks and insurance companies are also business entries that cannot escape from the creature called business failure.

So no point blaming anyone but yourself and learn how to do reasonable diversification.

If history repeats itself, now is the best time to purchase shares provided you have additional money to average out your buying activity for the next 3 years.

As Dr Mobius the executive chairman of Templeton Asset Management told Bloomberg:  "We are probably now at the bottom and it will be a build up of confidence from here on."  Those who invested in fundamentally strong blue chips companies today will be rewarded when recovery steps in, their investment will double or triple just like the Asian Financial crises in 1997.

June 13 2008 - STI  2,979.56 - Volume 1.59 billions shares traded
With Dow dropping a whopping 394 points on 6 June 2008 on the fact that oil rises to record level of 139 per barrel, we can safely assume there'll be a bloodbath for the whole week which were correct.

May 16 2008 - STI  3,241.49 - Volume 1.61 billions shares traded
