As a rule, life does not run smoothly.  It doesn't for the losers in life, but it doesn't for the winners either.

The only difference between these two categories is that the losers give up while the winners persist.  When you read about famous people in magazines and newspapers, it all sounds so easy and straightforward, as if these people had just sailed to the top unhindered and unhampered, ingeniously choosing all the best options and unerringly making for their destination.

But it doesn't work like that, the papers are only giving us the synopis.  When you sum up someone's career, you pick out the main points and make them into a string of events which appears to lead directly to the goal.

We rarely hear about the difficulties they had to overcome and the obstructions they had to conquer.  And even when you have reached the peak of success you are not safe from the bumps in the road of life, but at least you are in the financial position to afford better shock absorbers.
