| Everyone life are filled with unexpected adversity such as financial
or family problems, career and boss issues, relationship struggles with
boyfriend or girlfriend, chronic disease, problems with our children or
with in-laws or parents, substance abuse and other addictions, life threatening
sudden illness. The can happened even to the most successful, talented,
wealthy and celebrated people are not immune to experiencing the adversities
of life.
The following are some of life unexpected events
that could happened:
- Your home or office computer crashes and you have to re-install the
operating system (and lose all your programs).
- You slip and fall in the washroom and break several bones.
- Your spouse or best friend was involved in a bad accident and is
suddenly rushed to the hospital.
- Your own body is in spasm and you temporarily cannot move.
- You always had enough money to pay all your bills until...
How do you response? Do you begin with question such as "Why me, why
this, why now?" Are you sulking and take out your frustration on those
closest to you? Or do see it as hidden lesson or gift from the experience?
The following are some inspiring quotes to help you view your own life
adversities from a higher perspective.
"Everyone and everything around you is your
teacher." - Ken Keyes, Jr.
"It has done me good to be somewhat parched
by the heat and drenched by the rain of life - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
"Looking back, we see with great clarity, and
what once appeared as difficulties now reveal themselves as blessings."
- Dan Millman
The differences between those people who fall apart under the weight
of adversity and those who face head on with the problems, overcome them
as best they can, and actually thrive after that is really attitude. There
are many circumstances we just cannot control. My computer had just crashed
and I had to re-install the operating system and lose all of my programs
and files. It is going to take days to re-install all the programs
and files I need to work with. Yes, it has been stressful and upsetting
to you but there was nothing I could do except to just keep plodding along
until my equilibrium was re-established, in this case, until my computer
programs were installed and running again.
There are many ways which you can respond. You could throw your hands
up in the air, go out for some drinks and decide to deal with it in a few
days when you feel calmer. Some people choose to operate this way. You
could call up your computer company and yell at whoever you speak to and
demand attention and retaliation. You could spend hours on the phone complaining
to everyone you know about your hard luck with another computer crashing.
What is the most productive and correct way to respond to such adversity.
One of the best way is to handle what you can immediately. Take
whatever necessary steps to repair whatever is possible to repair. Then
just take a break to pamper yourself in the middle of the process. Remember
to just keep going until the crisis is over and life for you will return
to normal.
