Temporary Jobs still better than Staying Unemployed

By © Arthur, The Part Time Job Home

As working employees, we hate to read news about companies conducting mass axing of staff across the country.  When that happened it means that the job market is going to be tight and your company is going to give you more stress to perform better.

During those unemployment blues, companies are reluctant to make a commitment to grow their employees headcount.  Nowadays, even when there are sign that the economy is expanding, companies still prefer to hire temporary staff to handle those increase demand from customers.  They prefer to go slow hiring permanent staff and hiring temporary staff are going to be norm for the majority of companies.

Over the years, companies have learned that carrying out a massive retrenchment is expensive and a headaches to them as they have to deal with the falling morale of employees, lawsuits, endless union meetings and paying retrenchment packages to its permanent staff.  Their solutions to their manpower needs is to rely on temporary agencies, freelance professional or contract staff that does not requires any long term commitment.

Whether you like it or not, there are going to be more positions for temporary, freelance or contract staff rather that permanent positions.  You have to adapt to the new employment shift and used it to your advantage.

Some positive aspects of a temporary job:

- it fits in nicely in your resume especially when the job search is unexpectedly long.  A large gap of unemployment history does not look good in your resume.

- it shows your potential employer that you are adaptable and would rather stay productive even though your real talents are barely tapped in the temporary positions.  It also shows that you have the initiative to make things happened rather than wait for things to happened.

- you have a better chance for any permanent positions in the company as you are more familiar with the company culture as compare with a new applicant.

- when you perform well, you are likely to be turn from a temp to a perm when the company is growing and are looking to hire permanent staff.

- it give you an opportunity to network with others that might lead to that new permanent position that you were searching for.

- it give you more bargaining power as you are still able to keep food on the table.

The main idea here is to move out of the unemployment woes as it is going to have an undesirable effect on you financially and emotionally when you stay unemployed for too long.  You will lose your self confidence and get into unnecessary debts especially when your savings start to dried up.

Preparation during the good time when you have a full job is still the best solutions against unemployment.  Either, get a part time job or learn to start a work at home job from your home via the internet.  Having a part time or a work at home job with a continuous flow of income never failed to beat those long unemployed period.

Wishing you the best in your life and career.
