In our full-time paid employment job, we are bound to job hop numerous time during our career life.  People always feel that the grass are always greener at the other end.  Therefore, we are always on the lookout for a career change when we feels that the current job lack growth opportunities, excitement or simply felt that we are underpaid.

Job hoppers are those who changed their job at least 3 times every two years or more.  However, over job hopping can dampen your career growth as companies would not want to promote a regular job hoppers for senior position no matter how experience they are.  They feel that job hoppers have no commitment and are not dedicated to their job at hand.

Assuming that you are the CEO of a company, will you groom someone to replace your position if you know that the person like to job hop.  A higher position normally requires long-term commitment with the company in time of good and bad.  Head hunters will not seek you out for top position as it shows that you are unreliable, short-term oriented, unable to proved yourself and employing you for a top position is going to be a costly mistake.

Networking with your current colleagues and bosses is another problem.  How can you build up a sustain valuable friendships and acquaintances when you are always jumping from one job to another.  Before your boss have the chance to know you well or want to recommend you for a raise, you're already in another company.

No matter how talented or competence you are, sooner or later, you will find companies and job recruiter avoiding you as your long resume make them suspicious about your intentions.  Many employers still value people who have experience, record of stability and degree of commitment in their job.

Many career recruiters opinion is that job hopping is acceptable during the early years of the career.  The reasons given was because as new job candidate, the first few years could be a career testing phrase where they tried to find their own niche.  Tried your best to reduce your job hopping after 3 years as you should have found your niche by then.

Depending on your reasons for job hopping, certain reasons like making more money or boredom, you should consider starting a job working from home rather than frequent job hopping.  Many full-time employees have started part-time jobs at home as freelance consultant related to their full-time job or hobbies related job.  Part-time jobs working from home if done properly not only makes you more money.  It is also more challenging, exciting and gave you the chance to be self-employed.

Always analyze properly before you take that jump into another company.  Consider what the job can offer you in terms of skill enhancement, advancement opportunity and job satisfaction.  When you are satisfied with all those important criteria that you have set, take up the job and make the change.
