Finally, it had been confirmed that Britain is now out of the European Union.  The votes are quite closed 51.7% voted out while 48.3% voted to remain in EU. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also ended the week at 17,400.75 down -610.32.  Next week, the market will still be in a confusing mood as the world watches the development in the EU.  Be mentally prepared for more volatility.

The "Sell in May and Go away" old adage seems to haunt the Singapore market as the STI drop 37.01 points on Friday.  However, I think it is good news for income investor as lower share price will translate to a higher yield as you add stocks into your dividend machine.

May is also the month where all passive dividend income investor will received most of their dividends payout.  Will be re-investing the dividends received back into the market.

Positive for investors of SGX (S68)
Singapore Exchange and China Construction Bank (CCB) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote Singapore's capital markets to Chinese companies. Under the MOU, SGX and CCB will work closely on bringing Chinese companies to list in Singapore, especially through SGX’s Direct Listing Framework.  CCB is one of the issue managers accredited by SGX to assist companies in raising capital on the exchange, and as part of the MOU, will also
advise its SGX-listed clients looking to tap the secondary market for further fund-raising. SGX and CCB will also highlight opportunities for Chinese companies to issue off shore Renminbi bonds (Lion City Bonds), undertake mergers & acquisitions, establish cross-border asset management services and other capital market activities in Singapore. Using SGX as a platform, CCB will also explore derivatives trading, bond trading and other business activities to reach out to global investor base in Singapore. There are currently 120 Chinese companies and 103 RMB bonds listed on SGX.

China gross domestic demand grew in line with market forecasts push the STI sentiment higher this week.  Again, the sudden upturn of the STI tells again that we should not buy/sell stocks based on market news.  Instead, the focus should be on the stocks fundamental like what kind of business are they in, are they professional managed and do they have a policy to pay dividends.

As the STI stock purchase price gets higher, we can see from the below table that the dividend start to drop due to the higher buying price.
