Our Top Number One Life Enemy

"Today I will do what others won't, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can't."
*-- Jerry Rice

"Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings."
*-- Samuel Johnson (1709 - 1784)

"Think like a wise man but communicate in the language of the people."
*-- William Butler Yeats (1865 - 1939)

Millions of people who lived in this world suffer from a bad habit known as procrastination! It is our number one life enemy.  Some of us suffer at a mild level, while others suffer at a far more severely level. I can't remember who said it but the quote goes "procrastination is the thief of time!" For those of you who don't understand the meaning of the word or the quote that I have just used and want to know how can I stop procrastination, procrastination is the inability to make decision that can or may change the course of your life or present situation.

Examples of this might be if you have ever had an idea that you believe will make you rich. You are very aware that your idea will work and catch on, but you do nothing about it. In essence you are actually afraid to try! Perhaps because of fear of failure, or because you are justifying why you should not as the Nike people say "just do it!"

If it is fear of failure which deters you, why are you actually afraid?

The fear of failure may be very strong in many people as can the fear of success. Realistically speaking there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. My 19 year old daughter is a case in point, she wanted to leave school and start her own business, so she did. She now owns a dog walking and house sitting business with a friend, and for two teenagers they are doing incredibly well; their business is growing from strength to strength.

It may be easy to understand why people are afraid of failure, but why then are they afraid of success? How can this be humanly possible?

Some of the reasons for this are that success will change your lifestyle and you cannot imagine living any other way. So if this is the reason, you have to overcome your habit of procrastination.

There is no pill that will do this for you, it is fairly simple really, you just have to get into the correct frame of mind. Just ask yourself, "If I do this, what is the worst thing that can happen?"

If the answer is failure, just remember that you learn from failure and it is not one cataclysmic event, failure is not learning from other failures and repeating the same mistakes time and again. Procrastination is repeating the same mistakes time and again!
