If you happened to have some teaching experience and enjoy helping others learn, you can earn money being a teacher online. There are many companies that have their website online that pay you to help children and adults learn without ever leaving the comfort of your computer  chair. Depending on the type of company you choose to work with and the subjects that you teach, you can expect to make anywhere from $10 to $40 an hour.

Most of these companies that offer online teaching jobs require you to have a college degree or current enrollment in a university. A few of them such as eSylvan, require a current teaching certificate. You need to go to each company's website to see the qualifications. If you only have the education but lack the experience, consider volunteering at a local library, school, or organization that needs tutors.

You can choose to work either part-time or full-time for the companies. The number of hours that you put into work is typically flexible, but you'll need to be available in the afternoons and evenings after school is over. The company that you work for will match the skills you possessed with those your skills up with children who need help in those areas. After you have been matched with your student, you work with them by using an online whiteboard with a chat window. You are able to see the same screen and both you and the student can write or draw on it. You can then communicate through the chat window.

With some online teaching companies, you are on call for whatever student signs in needing homework help. You'll have the opportunity to work with several different students and you'll likely stay busy during the week. You won't have to worry about cancellations.

Other companies will match you directly with students whom you will help on a regular basis. Working with the same students can be rewarding because you'll be able to monitor their progress and custom your tutoring to their learning style.

For greater flexibility, consider working for yourself. It may take time to find quality clients, but you can charge your own rates and not worry about a middleman. Make connections by volunteering locally, ask clients to recommend you, and by placing ads in your local newspaper or Craigslist. A benefit of this is that you can combine tutoring in person with teaching online, if you choose.

For stay-at-home parents, university student, people looking for a second job, or people who love teaching but aren't working in the school system, teaching online is a good way to make extra money right from home.
